If you are getting no power through the solenoid there is a
problem. You should have power to the hot side of the solenoid
at all times, if you have the type of solenoid with two large
terminals and two small. Is that what you have? Disconnect all
connections from the solenoid. Using a multi meter set to
continuity touch both small terminals. You will either hear a
beep, if the meter is so equipped, or you meter will will show
continuity. If there is no beep then the solenoid is bad. If there
is a beep, then check to make sure voltage is getting to the
solenoid when the key it turned to starts. You should hear a click
in the solenoid when the key is turned. You should read voltage
on your multi-meter if you test while someone else turns the key.
You can also check the two large terminals in much the same
way. To much typing. The net has a two minuted video
illustrating how.
