Where should I start on figuring out why
my 01 f150 4.6 won't start after a head job.
I might be off one tooth on timing would
that stop it from starting

Being off on the cam timing can bend the valves.

yeah, the timing has to be spot on- also, on 21st Century cars, there are many other things that can go wrong doing your own work- that ain't your father's F-150

Check the timing mark when piston #1 is TDC. U can have the timing mark when piston is down vs up and that can cause it not to start. If the mark is ligned uo, check both cam timing marks again
