You may want to check the solenoids behind the battery on the firewall. It's been sitting for a while so I'd start there. A quick check is to see if you are getting vacuum and of course the more in depth checks would be electrical. This is an informative video, hope it helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWXiArMiqBw

The vacuum solenoids are for engaging/disengaging the 4x4 locking pins

No, no, no. Yes you have a problem but unless you have lockers front and rear all 4 wheels will NOT spin in a situation like that. Most trucks have what's called an open diff, look it up too much to explain. The wheel with least resistance will get the power per axle. You should have had 1 front wheel and 1 rear wheel spinning in your situation. Your 4x4 didn't seem to be engaging if niether front wheel was spinning

thanks all, the video was very helpful. i try the vacuum 1st. when my son returns my truck. he better hurry hard winter coming, deer are dark already.

A 4WD with open differentials will always have at least 1 tire in front and 1 tire in back turn when it is in 4WD.
