I have a 2000 f150 pickup with v-6 my battery light came on and the gauge went all the way up to high, all other gauges shut off, and the abs light came on, a crackling sound came from the passenger side under the dash,my windows wouldnt go up or down, when i put the brakes on everything went back to normal. once I pushed on the gas everything went bad again. i parked the truck pulled battery off and then hooked it back up and started it,removed positive side and truck still ran off alternator but my head lights went out and the int. dome light as well. then i tried to put the truck in gear but it want come out of park. this morning went out to truck and the battery was dead, checked all fuses and all was good, help what could be the problem
"a crackling sound came from the passenger side under the dash" - Sounds like a short circuit to ground or some other electrical problem. That's the first place I would look to see what happened.
i would check your electrical ignition switch should be on the colume
Here is what I can add. My 2003 has a v6. Getting into the car one cold morning I turned the key and absolutely nothing. Battery was dead. Since I was pulled into a single car driveway between a residence and fence there was no way for the neighbor to jump the batter. The neighbor and I decided to push the thing out of the driveway so a jump would be possible. The thing would not come out of park. I later learned that when the battery is totally dead, you cannot shift the vehicle out of park as foot pressure on the brake must be applied to enable a switch to actuate to all for the shift. Your battery is definitely shot. Maybe the only problem.
