Can I put transmissions fluid in a manual standard

They told me it don't need fluid in a standard what that means

Manual transmissions use gear oil. NOT transmission fluid. Usually 80W-90 gear oil is what's called for. There's a filler plug on the transmission. You'll remove it and stick your finger in the hole. The fluid level should be at the bottom of the filler hole. If it's not, top it off. HTH. -Jim

So why they say I cant put gear oil

Whomever "they" is doesn't know what they're talking about. If this is a stick shift that's what it takes. Your local auto parts store or Chevy Dealer parts counter can confirm this. HTH. -Jim

There is a specific GM part number for the fluid that goes in your manual transmission. There's a downloadable chart from Carquest that has the information on it. Do you know which transmission you have? The title of the PDF file is Manual Transmission Fluid Application Guide-CARQUEST. HTH. -Jim
