Im16 and i no insurance will be killer but, im looking at a 2002 Z28 Camaro.  It has a 62,000 miles on it.  Along with a body kit and rims.  The person wants 10,100 for it.  The blue book says its worth it worth it but, my parents dont think that it is.  It has a few minor scratches here and there, nothing some touch up paint wont do.  Is this really a good price? Thanks in advance.

Might be worth it but it seems high for what it is, and you don't know if the person who owned it before beat it up racing-wise by driving it hard.

The price is not that bad but for a first car may have a little much power i know my first car was a 1995 Camaro Z28 with much done to the engine lets just say i had speeding tickets in 4 counties in less then 3 months so needless to say i had to sell it just a little something to think about when you get a car with some power

I would say 10 is worth it epecially it being a 02 just check it real good or have a mechanic check it out the only thing i'd be worring about is you wrapping it around a pole (not to say your a bad driver just inexperienced and these cars can be a handful especially in poor driving conditions) I've seen it happen way to many times it sounds like a great car but for you I'd save the money buy a earlier camaro 93-97 and drive that for a while so you can get used to the power and how the car reacts put the rest of the money in a cd or a IRA with a decent interest rate and once you are comfortable you can upgrade and you'll have even more money to spend in the end and will have a less chance of wrecking it trust me I bought a trans am when I just turned 17 with little driving experience I still don't understand why I'm still alive

your gona have to learn how to handle that torque and RWD isnt the easiest platform to drive under the weather wen your a beginner.. dont b a idiot and think you can power through every corner cuz one day your going to end up ina tree..

I would just skip over the 93-97, unless you can find one with a V6 for a fair price. But in my opinion I believe you should get a 82-92, preferable 85-92 camaro with the TPI 305, which is the fuel injection setup, any from before 85 will have a carb and your not going to want to pay for that much gas. It's still a V8 but will help you get use to driving with some power, and you can pick one up for like $2000.

actually in that year of camaro with FI the 305 and the 350 have the same ammount of hp due to gm nothing thinking of bringing back the 350 and at last minute did and threw the same fi setup on it.

i think thats not too bad, it still is decently low miles and that many for a 2002 is prbably al highway cruising, if its already done with body kits and rims, i think thats worth it

Dude, don't be a fag... This is obviously your first car, and you want to look cool. NEWS FLASH. YOU ARE GOING TO CRASH IT. Every first car gets wrecked, especially when you Rice it out like that. You shouldn't pay a penny over $500 for a car right now.

For an LS1 Camaro, thats about what your gonna pay....It would probably be smarter for you to get an LT1 style Camaro, parts are cheaper(somewhat) and insurance would be less cause its an older car. Make sure before you get it, if you do, that you have a mechanic that you trust go over it, bumper to bumper and check EVERYTHING, I'm sure you don't what to drop the kind of money that a new trani or rearend would cost.....trust me as a former Camaro owner, they are awesome daily drivers but you do have to respect the amount of power they have!!!

Personally since its been given a body kit and all, I feel that that lowers the value of the vehicle considerably. I have only seen maybe 1 or 2 camaro's that generation look even remotely good with a body kit. The others looked more like overpowered sebrings (damn you chrysler). Also, in all honestly, this isn't a first car type of car. Especially for the "they can't tell me what I can and can't drive" 16 year olds out there. Granted my first car I ever bought was a 95 z/28, I was also 22 when I bought it. But yeah, if it drives anything like mine does then its got a lot of power, a lot of handling, and a lot of slip ups if you don't watch yourself. My advice - if you get it, put it under a tarp until you have learned to drive better (by better, I mean more responsibly, and by that I mean this, I don't care how much a 16 year old says he's responsible and all, you give him a muscle car, he will go fast, and chances are he will wreck). I don't mean to sound like I am belittling you or any other 16 year old male out there, I just know how it is, and I really hate to see kids get nice cars and then wreck them.

I had a 1999 Z28 Camaro when I was 24, but I knew I had to apprichiate the power of cars before I lept into a car with 300bhp and the same amount of torque (before anyone say's it's more - I know, just rounding it off!). I started out with a front wheel drive car with about 70bhp, then 120bhp. After these I went onto a MR2 Turbo (yes a rice car!) with 260bhp but being mid engined behaves more pretictable than the Camaro. finally after having this for three years I went for the Camaro. I got the Camaro knowing that in the wet especially these cars can suddenly point you the other way round. Bear this in mind and tell me you could correct this with your driving experiance in a Camaro: Going up hill in the wet doing 70mph on a slight bend, go to accelerate and the auto box kicks down two gears into second. The sudden change of torque and power made the rear end loose traction and start to slide to one side. I managed to correct this and all was fine. But I know that if this had happened to me when I was 17 (when I passed my test) I would not have been able to handle it and I for sure would have been spiining around doing 70mph! Yes this is just one incident and hopefully you won't have anything like this if you decide to get a Z28, but the point is this. In a car with say 100bhp and front wheel drive you can put your foot to the floor at any speed over about 5mph and you will not loose traction. With something with 300bhp you can't treat the gas peddle like a switch, you need to ease the power down - feeling what the car is doing every step of the way. The only way to know what to feel for though is down to experiance. I remember for my first car I was looking at a 9 litre Trans AM (engine transplant) - when I phoned up the insurance company I got told they were not even going to give me a quote. And that I should get a small car to begin with and wait until I was older. Which is what I did. Hope this helps - if you do get the Z28, enjoy it, but be very carefull, especially when wet and in the first year or so of driver it until you understand it.

Well through some careful consideration and a lot of newspapers i was able to find a 2001. Its a v6, but it still has plenty of power. Its a red T-Top and its not to horrible on insursance. It needs a little work, it also has 130,000 miles though, but i plan to take good care of this car and i hope it lasts along time, after all its a camaro. Thanks for all your help.

All I can say is bad idea... Not necessarily because of the car, although I've rarely seen a car with a body kit on it that hasn't been driven into the ground... But more because RWD+high torque+young driver+weather+tree=tragedy... Everyone knows of the kid who got the sweet car when he turned 16 and slammed into a tree, or skidded into a ditch within 6 months... Point A to Point B mate. Plus if you don't already, you'll be wanting a bigger backseat.

I have a 2002 LS1 SS. Price sounds more than fair, but, no disrespect intended, you may be a very mature 16 year old, but I have a 17 & 20 year old that I don't let drive my SS. Way too much car for an inexperienced young driver, especially as a daily ride in all weather. If you like the looks, get a 6 cyl, they are still 200 HP and get better fuel economy & much easier on the insurance rates. Even if my kids were paying for one themselves I would not want them to have a high performance sports car as a first vehicle. Even the 6 cyl will not be a great all weather daily driver. Just my 2 cents worth.

First off use rubber compound not get a new paint job. I understand your situation as well. I'm looking at a BMW 6 series. I'm only 16 as well and its 10,900 and my parents dont think I should get it. If you have the money for it I think you should definitely get it. Its a great investment and its cheap for the car you're looking at. The price is fair though. I definitelty support you getting it though. Chevys are great cars!
