1997 f150 4.2: will start without starter ground but will only click with wire connected.
the truck would only click when trying to start. while checking for voltage at the starter i found out it would crank with jumper cables hooked to the ground wire at the starter and the frame. after removing the ground cable from the starter the truck is cranking but will just click if i reattach the ground cable to the starter. should i just leave the cable off? i only use the truck occasionally.
Try to tighten starter bolts that is the reason you are loosing your ground.
thanks for your answer but it cranks without the ground cable being connected.
