I tried to recharge my ac in my 1995 Ford F-150 and it started making a loud scraping noise and then started smoking and two rubber like washers blew out from from where it was smoking, what happened?
AC??? AIR CON??
Yes air conditioning
Sounds like the clutch On your compressor has locked up. Needs to be replaced .
REPLACE AC PUMP, NO FIXING SORRY
Does this affect my truck at all? Like can I still drive it?
So were does the scraping noise and smoke seems like its coming from because the only thing that comes on when you turn on your A.C is the compressor and clutch ?
COMP HAVE A CLUTCH THAT KICKS IN WHEN AC IS TURNED ON, NO IF OFF YOU CAN DRIVE WITHOUT ANY WORRIES
From the clutch I believe
Yes you can still drive vehicle just will have no A.C unless scraping and smoking is present even if A.C is off.
Unfortunately A/C service and repair is best left to a qualified person. You should be able to drive it as long as there is no issue with the A/C compressor clutch bearing, just keep the A/C switched off (this means the defroster needs to be off also). You could disconnect the electrical connection to the A/C clutch to be safe.
Okay. Does this also mean I can't use the heater?
no u can use the heater, stay away from ac button
Sounds like the clutch on the compressor froze up. Turn off the AC, if the noise stops you can drive it. If the clutch flew apart and the pulley is frozen you will have to replace the clutch assembly to drive. You probably will not have ac, but the clutch will free spin and you will be able to drive.
