Asked by Oct 04, 2012 at 12:10 PM about the 1992 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

anyone have any thoughts on why my trans would drip a few drops ONLY when carrying a load? Not even a HEAVY load. like 4 bales of hay at 400 lbs.  took hay out and no drip. HUMMMMMMMMMM

Rear transmission seal is going bad, a heavier than normal load puts more pressure on the tranny and forces the fluid through seal, it is simple to replace and inexpensive.

THANKS hope it is an easy fix I do most of my work myself

Pretty simple remove the drive shaft flat blade screw driver or chisel and a hammer to remove the seal and then tap the new one in place.
