My Truck will not start the second time
I have a 1992 Ford F150 5.0L v8 super cab 4wd with dual tanks. Recently my
truck has been quirky when starting. It always starts if it has not been running
for awhile. However, If I run the truck for a bit, turn it off and try to start it
again, it will turn over but not start. I recently replaced the starter, fuel pump,
spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. I tried switching it to the front
tank to start the second time and it works....only thing is the front tank has
Im confused, you start by saying that it has dual tanks then finish with the front tank has been removed. Which is it? Did you also replace the stator and ignition module?
Yes, I also had that replaced. The truck was made with dual tanks, but the previous owner cut the front tank out. However, there are still electrical lines for the front tank.
When you toggled the switch to the front tank you opened and closed the contacts in the switch. It sounds like the previous owner rewired the tank switch to power the rear at all times or toggling the switch cleaned the contact enough to make it work. I had something similar happen to mine when the switch wasn't toggled for a long time. Another thing to look at is the wiring going to the ignition module on the drivers side fender well there used to be problems there back in the day.
