On cold mornings, my battery icon is red and the battery charging indicator is below 14. Why?

Asked by Jan 02, 2015 at 07:27 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It just started the past few days. When I turn the car on, the icon for the battery is
showing up red.  And the battery charge needle indicator is below 14 (middle) position.

You have something pulling current somewhere

But the car is off. I do not put headlights on until car is started. How do I check if I have something pulling current?
