I have never seen any statistics but I doubt there is any difference. Most flex fuel engines are run on the same gas as other cars. You would need to talk to owners that seek out and use only E85 in their trucks to know how they hold up.

I have personally used E85 in different autos I have owned. Watching the computer read out in the instrument panel, shows less mpg after a couple of tanks of flex fuel E85. However alternating back to regular fuel every other fill-up only lose 1 to 2 mpg. Using E85 reduces oil producers sales .not only are you burning less oil product, but as the engine runs cleaner running E85 , lubricating oil in the engine remains cleaner. Most of the dirt in your engine oil comes from the combustion process burning regular gas. Using E85 reduces this as it is a much cleaner fuel. Price per gallon is another incentive,as E85 is usually several cents lower. Sometimes close to a dollar less. My current vehicle has 85k miles, and I use E85 often. Last car I owned a 2001 model, had 200k miles and still running fine when I traded it in. For further research look at racing cars that use ethenol exclusively. Also Jay Leno's garage has had persons knowledgeable in the subject .
