How do i fix a speedometer on a 1995 Ford model E-150 van?
Well, I father got his van serviced a few months back and apparently they must have done something wrong and now the speedometer won't tell you how fast your going. The pointer stays on 0.
This is a real big problem for me because I just got my license and I need this fixed so I don't have to risk getting pulled over for speeding. I really appreciate any advice I can get, so thanks in advance for your help.
Also, the gas meter, oil meter, battery meter and temperature meter works. Its just the speed meter that won't work.
Is there a check engine light on? Check the speed sensor at the transmission, make sure it is plugged in properly and the wiring is not damaged, you may have to remove the instrument cluster and check the connectors on the back, as this vehicle doesn't have a speedo cable it has a small DC motor that drives the speedo, this motor may have gone bad as they sometimes do. If you have a speedometer repair shop in your area they can repair this if not then try a auto salvage for a used cluster, I don't believe they are available from Ford anymore.
You have a speedometer cable that goes from the back of the instrument cluster to the transmission. Sounds like they forgot to hook it back up after the servicing. HTH. -Jim
No cable. Electronic. Check to see if VSS is connected. depending on what work was done check on top of rear differential or rear driver's side of transmission. Best bet is TAKE IT BACK!
