Asked by Jun 03, 2013 at 12:02 PM about the 1998 Ford E-250 3 Dr STD Econoline Cargo Van Extended

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Engine stops sometimes while driving and will not start again unless it sits for a while or

should be on drivers side frame rail.

The fuel filter isn't your problem. Once plugged, it would remain plugged - you couldn't start it again. You're probably looking at the fuel pump failing. Especially if you have to let it sit and cool off before you can start it again. This used to be an ignition module concern but since you mentioned starting fluid (which is a BAD IDEA), then we can assume that it's a fuel problem.
