What should the normal idle be on a 03 Suburban 5.3

Asked by MB3110 Jun 04, 2018 at 01:01 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 4WD

Question type: General

My 2003 Suburban 5.3 has a bit of a
lifter noise when starting but within a
block or after warming up a little is goes
away sounds great. Is that normal? Also
my idle is a little low is there a filter or
something that might be blocking any
flow to keep that from idling normal and
what is normal is it a thousand RPM?

Try cleaning the throttle bore and plate, see if it helps. You have tac, throttle actuator control? Any applicable trouble codes? I don't have rpm spec for that, it isn't adjustable. I could throw out a spec like 750 rpms in drive, automatic. The spec was for 2000 chevy engine, 7 point whatever liter engine. Bigger engine than yours. These specs might work on a new engine, but, a high-mileage vehicle, probably not.
