Could two of my sparkplugs keep my car from starting?
My car cut off on me on highway two days
ago. I figured it was gas so I went to get gas.
Get back, put the gas in it & she still didn't
start. She'll crank but won't turn over. My
brother gave me a tune up a while back but
told me he couldn't get the two sparkplugs in
the back out because he didn't have the tool
to reach it. He said they look like they've
never been changed. Could these two
sparkplugs keep my car from starting?
Everyone tells me it's something more
No on the plugs, you should be OK there. If you run out of fuel till the vehicle stops or turns off, and then add fuel, a lot of times the vehicle won't start for a couple reasons. Did you turn the key on and off a few times to prime the system? Do that first before cranking you need to build up fuel pressure again. Do you hear the fuel pump turn on/buzz? If not, most times the fuel pump burns out due to low and no fuel to keep it from overheating and burning out. Also the fuel lines can be clogged, so check the fuel filter and have the fuel lines cleaned. You can check the fuel pressure with gauges to verify.
We always suggest to drivers that you don't let the fuel level go under a quarter tank so you don't run into a situation like this.
