I replaced a TPS and now my van won't downshift
Asked by BigSack Sep 09, 2015 at 03:17 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet Express 1500 RWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My van was running very rough and the check engine light came on. Went to auto zone and the error was for the throttle position sensor. I replaced it and my van does run smoother but it won't downshift for passing and it dies when I drive in reverse.

I know you replaced the TPS. to see if it is working correct you will need a volt meter to test it. With the ignition on, check the voltage on the TPS. It will vary as you move it. The voltage should increase or decrease in a smooth line. If it does not move smoothly you the TPS you have may be defective. I don't know what the volts should be you will need to refer to the shop manual for the correct voltage readings for your specific vehicle.
