Where is the diagnostic port on a 2003 Mercedes S500?

Asked by Apr 05, 2013 at 10:44 AM about the 2003 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 500 4MATIC

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have looked under the dash on the driver's side of the S500 but I only see a solid panel. I can usually find
the computer diagnostic plug near the steering wheel column. Can anyone please tell me where it is
located on this year and model?

Thanks

Look into the leg-space beneath the steering wheel. There, you will find a 16 pin-receiving computer outlet. This Data Link Connector accommodates scanners for all diagnostic systems. However, this outlet's location depends on the year and model of the Mercedes in question. For most vehicles, it will be under the dash and to the left or right of the steering column. In some models, it will be behind an access panel, and in others, it will be out in the open.

Most high end cars like Cadillac, Mercedes, and BMW, have a cover over the data link connector. Look for a small rectangular cover, about 2 inches long by about 1 inch high near the steering column at the bottom of the dash. HTH. -Jim
