The rear suspension of the 560SEL has a hydraulic fluid setup and requires servicing by Mercedes or a mechanic willing to deal with it - most won't touch it. Over time the system goes bad and the symptom is first a hard ride - then the back of the car starts getting sitting lower and lower....and to answer your next question, no - you can't replace with standard shocks.
