Question type: Car Customization

I want to replace my engine in my 1990 300SEL.  With the improvement in power and general overall better performance would this be possible?  Would it require using the 92 transmission and are there any other modification to make this swap work?

You may be OK doing this, but I would call a dealership to ask them if there are any major changes between this engine and previous engines. I would also google for groups of MB enthusiasts who will know the minutiae of the various engines and be able to tell you definitively if these will interchange.
