Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After having about $2000 worth a work done on my '04 Chevy suburban
that has 345,000 miles on it, which included a high volume oil pump, timing
chain, valve cover gaskets, intake gasket, trans seal, full tune up, mass air
flow sensor, the truck runs great! The only problem I have, which my
mechanic told me it fixes it 70 % of the time, is the high volume oil pump
did not fix the low oil pressure alarm. He says I have oil pressure, but
because my bearing are worn its not enough to shut the alarm off, but the
truck is running good with no knocking or anything. he says there is no way
to fix the oil pressure alarm without putting in a another engine? really? He
said mine didn't have the filter basket that so many talk about either. I
would like to get a second opinion, that alarm is driving me crazy!

It is possible the main bearings are worn to the point that the engine is not creating enough oil pressure, but like you say, you would think there would be a knocking. Your mechanic should have checked the oil pressure to begin with to know the condition of the engine, along with the engine compression, to see if this engine was even worth putting these parts into it. Lots of miles on this engine, I would have thought it be on its last legs. But the only suggestion would be to verify the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, and replace the oil sending unit.
