Help!

I recently bought an '04 Malibu.Just a few days
ago it started acting up.I would drive and then out
of nowhere i would press the gas pedal and the
rpms would go high,but the car would be going
about 10 mph.I've asked around and haven't
gotten a clear answer on what could be
wrong.Help me please!

Sounds transmission related, as the transmission is disengaging and letting the RPM's increase. Check your fluid level to see if it is low. That is one sign it is when the car is cold.

would it be best if I changed the filter and put in new fluid?

While it won't hurt changing the fluid I only recommend it as a fix if you have sluggish shifting. Your symptoms are more serious like a transmission solenoid or torque convertor issue.
