Should I buy a 2003 avalanche with it having issues with the oil pressure pump & it needing to be replaced
Hey, Price and condition. You know what it takes to fix!
Just be sure it's the pump. Low oil pressure also indicates worn or damaged bearings in the bottom end. I'm 1 for 4 on my motor's with low oil pressure. 1 weak pump, verses 3 bearings. I don't mean to scare you just letting you know. A mechanics stethoscope would let you listen to the bearings. If you offer this as a negotion fact it may lower the price. If it's the 5.3 they are very cheap used. It's a gamble.
buy as is and spend around $3000 to get it right, including a crate engine that is a turn key. This is one that is ready to drop in, turn the key and drive. Lower his asking price to get it. If that is a problem, what else are you getting that may be an issue. Look it over very carefully. Transmissions, 4 X 4 transfer cases and other items are expensive.
