Temp gauge pegs out but heat still works. Faulty gauge?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was driving van. Temp showed running warm.  Shut can off for five minutes.  Restarted
van, gauge immediately moved all the way to right, pegged.  Heater still blowing hear.  Is
this just a bad gauge?

Possibly. GM gauges will go full scale if there is a open circuit from the sender, so it could also be a sender or wiring problem. But check your cooling system out make sure it is full.
