I have a 2001 Toyota Tahoma Pre runner v6 won't shift into 3rd or OD?
I have a 2001 Toyota Tahoma Pre runner v6 won't shift into 3rd or OD? It shifts once it reaches 4/5000 RPM but I know that is not good. My husband pressure washed engine prior to this happening. We have checked linkage, changed fuel filter, flushed fluids and nothing. already one place says replace total tranny at 2800 :o but it still does shift so is it really the tranny? HELP PLEASE
As he pressured washed the engine, I would start checking all of the electrical connectors and grounds for water contamination and corrosion paying particular attention to the ones along the firewall and computer connectors.
Thank you, will check. Do you know if the TPS has anything to do with the tranny shifting?
Yes it can but if it is out of specs it should turn on the check engine light and have a corresponding code. Is the check engine light on?
Thank you everyone for your reply. Problem is fixed. It did end up being the TPS Throttle Position Sensor. I checked the oms and compared it to the chart in the book. Was not reading where needed to be. Also compared to new sensor and was much different. So this goes to show you.....cant rely on computer to always tell you what is wrong. Sometimes it takes old school knowledge and training to figure things out. So insted of spending 3000 on a new tranny it was a 60 dollar part.
