How much to repair a knock sensor on a 1999 Toyota sienna?
Did I get riped off at 750 dollars? The check enhine light would not go off and repairman
said he had to go in and move extra stuff around so price went up from 600 to 750.
Yep, that 's high. http://www.automd.com/repaircost/estimate/ says 3.6hrs @ $84/hour = $302.40 and the most expensive knock sensor from CarParts.com is $155 (they go down from that) so that's $302.40 labor + $155 = $457.40. Dealer $101/hour so add $62 = $519. So yep, high even for dealer. Other Parts suppliers sell the knock sensor for around $100, I went with highest. "Moving extra stuff" means he charged you an extra 2 hours or so to bring it up to $750. A reputable shop will charge the known time for a certain job,,,and that can work in their favor, if they are good and get it done faster they can still charge the going time spec. But taking longer because he has never done that job before or is just slow is not fair to you.
Mr. Nut has this covered but may I add: it is over now, the blood has been shed, just learn from it and don't let it happen again-
Yep, jam. that's about the size of it. Happy new year to you and yours
