Tires or Wheel Bearing Noise

Asked by Jun 18, 2017 at 10:30 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Impala LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just recently had my front wheel bearings replaced along with the front brakes
as it was recommended by my mechanic. One of them was producing a
traction control error code and the other was going bad and has some howling
noise. It was also noted that I had some 'feathering' in my rear tires. After the
front wheel bearing replacement, the steering wheel vibration I had previously
had is essentially gone, but the howling is still there. I start to hear the noise
around 30 or 40 mph and its the loudest when I brake. The noise is not quite
as loud as before the front wheel bearing replacement though. Anyway, could
this be my abnormally worn rear tires or rear wheel bearing or bearings going
bad? I really hope it is my tires.
