Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable and wait 5 minutes for the airbag system to discharge. The airbag system maintains a reserve charge of electricity so that in the event the battery becomes disconnected in a collision the airbags will still deploy. On the back of the steering wheel you'll see 4 Torx head screws. Remove them. Remove the airbag module from the steering wheel and unplug it. Turn the airbag module around so the front is facing away from you! Carry the module this way to an area away from anything that can become a flying object in the event of an accidental deployment. Place the airbag module face up on a sturdy surface. Such as concrete (preferred) or a sheet of plywood. Do NOT use a self powered ohmmeter to test resistance values on the airbag module or any part of the airbag system. This WILL cause deployment!! If you are replacing the airbag module take the old one to the Chevy Dealer for proper disposal. Do NOT throw it in the trash!! When transporting the old airbag module do so in your trunk. Again, in the face up position. HTH. -Jim
