Road Trip with 2005 Equinox

Question type: General

I have driven this vehicle from CT to TX and back, I am about to do it again. I
am not the original owner, I am the third owner and I have had it since 2015.
I keep up with all oil changes and have had the brakes done, new tires and
all belts and fluids checked ( radiator hose was replaced) No serious
problems with the car as far as I can tell. The electrical system has been
crazy since I got the car I have been able to hear a hum,  and sometimes the
fan comes on when I am idling even though the car display and feel the
hood reveal the car is not overheating. What if anything should I be worried
about breaking down? It will mostly all be highway driving.

A hum most like caused by any bearing under the hood. Not necessary is the electrical system. Your vehicle is only producing 12V. The computer will kick the fan on when it detects a preset default temp setting. Have a reputable tech check it.

A humm or a buzz? A buzz is usually from a relay starting to go bad or undervoltage. If you suspect a humm from any pulley, use a mechanic's stethoscope or long handled screwdriver held to your ear to isolate where noise is coming from, just be cautious around rotating parts.
