1996 TOYOTA RAV4 REAR LIGHTS STAY ON AFTER CAR IS TURNED OFF.  HOW

Most likely it is the brake lights as those are the only one that would be hot with the key off, have someone watch the lights as you pull up on the brake pedal, if they go off the. You have a bad switch if they don't then you will have to get up under the dash and disconnect the switch then see if the lights go out, if they do then you still have a bad switch, if they don't then you have a crosscircuit in the wiring somewhere.
