Ignition lock out won't allow starter to turn over on 05 Chevy Colorado with (5) cylinder vortec

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was driving a friends Colorado from Houston to Lufkin.....Tread stripped from drivers side wheel while traveling at around 65 mph, no blowout, just tread flew off.....Pulled to shoulder and turned off ignition to change wheel.....When tried to start truck, starter would not engage, but small engine icon with closed pad lock showed up on dash lights.....Truck does not have alarm system, power windows or power locks, but uses a single key to both unlock doors and to start truck.....Friend is currently semi-stranded in Livingston waiting for repairs by local dealership in Livingston.....Dealership said was caused by battery and ordered a new one, almost 300 bucks, to be delivered tomorrow.....Is there a passlock system on the truck though there IS NOT either an alarm system or power door locks and windows on the truck?.....And if so, what might have caused the original lock out from the tread flying off the wheel....Also when the tread blew off it hit the lower portion of the door hard enough to cause visible damage and cause the door to POP as if it's out of line when opening or closing it now.....Any suggestions or ideas.....Don't trust dealership, though my friend wants to, and am uncertain about the supposed dead battery being the cause of the engine lock out.....Guess I'll maybe find out more tomorrow after the gold plated battery comes in and is installed at the dealership, but any suggestions / ideas would be appreciated.
