In a Matrix? Why? I guess it would be safe, although it isn't going to do anything for you. If you want to put an intake in throw in an AEM short air or cold air intake. It still isn't going to do much in that low output of a motor.

Exactly! Why would you want to? You have to realize that this is a detuned version of the XRS 180 hp motor which had VVTL and could spin up to 8500 rpm. This motor will run for ever with proper oil changes and no messing with the engineering. One guy has 300K mi, my daughter and other 200K+ and I put 150k on mine. Zero issues. Don't mess with success.

If you want more power out of 1ZZ-FE, the best way to go is with a LIGHT turbo, 4-5 Psi at the most. After that you will need a custom timing map on the engine computer, to retard the timing according to boost. This will push it up to around 200HP safely, on 87 octane. You will also need to install an inline transmission cooler if you're running an automatic to deal with the extra heat the torque converter will be making. Along with that comes shorter service intervals for both engine and transmission oils.
