my 2000 toyota echo is making a wierd grinding sound

like a bearing when i start it. and the belt is squeeking. it was overheating so
we changed the thermostat. could it be a pully? to the waterpump or air
conditioner?

maybe the water pump. Remove the serpentine belt and sping the pulley by hand. Check for noises and resistance.
