Whats a normal rpm level going 60 mph on a highway for a 2004 toyota corolla S automatic 1.8L
Asked by wturner91 Jan 27, 2015 at 05:17 PM about the 2004 Toyota Corolla S
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
i have an automatic toyota corolla with about 186xxx miles on it. i was just curious if any
one knew if it was normal for my car to be running 60mph down a highway and the rpm's
are at 2200.... To me that seems really high considering my husband has a 96 z71 with a
v8 4x4 lifted 6 inches with 35's on it and at 60 mph running down the highway the rpms
are at 1300 and its never over 1500.

In my 2006 Corolla I cruise at 60 @ 2200 rpm, same generation, same engine, same car. 2400@70 ..right for a car that red-lines at 6500 The V8 in hubby's car just doesn't run that fast as the little 1.8
Bob answered 3 years ago
2200 rpm is normal for your car. Jacked up pickup with bigger tires makes it act like a numerically lower rear gear and drops the cruising rpm.
FordNut answered 3 years ago
However I bet your hubby's speedometer is inaccurate..with the 35's. Those bigger wheels/tires will give a false reading, showing you on the speedometer slower that real speed. My Ford runs at 2400 @ 55, stock (size) wheels and tires

That a different way of saying the same thing Bob said.

well the truck didnt always run 1300 rpm @ 60 used to run around 2200 rpm @ 60 and didnt sound right he change the thermostat and runs at 1300 and sounds beautiful..... I have had my car for bout 6 yrs and for some reason i dont ever remember it running 2200 rpm @ 60 but thats definitely a big relieve. also another question.... could a clogged cat. converters make my car on take off sluggish?
Bob answered 3 years ago
Plugged or melted cat will cause exhaust restriction and some loss of power especially at higher speeds. If it were severely plugged it might only run 40 or 50 mph.

For a while it was a hit and miss thing... Check engine light would come on id have it read and Everytime it came up as my converters... This time the light came on and it has stayed on! Is there anything I can do to fix it? Cuz I don't have $200-$500 to replace it and if I have it removed my check engine light will stay on permanently due to a sensor
