car shuts off when driving
97 Toyota corolla,manual. keeps
shutting off. replaced distributor cap.
car does start after ten minutes or so.
Find out if you have spark when this happens, if you don't then it is very likely that the ignition module is thermally breaking down. Do some price comparasions, if this Toyota has the module inside the distributor it might be cheaper to replace the whole distributor than just the module.
Yep, this Corolla 1997 was the last year of the 7A FE --1.8L and the ignition module in this car is in the distributor and you can buy a Cardone distributor brand new from Amazon for Under $120
Idk what is meant by the entire module? are there multiple components? what I see is a big piece that has four plugs connected to the four openings on top the engine head, is this an accurate description of the module ur referring to? B.C. this is what I replaced yet it's still shutting off, could it be a labor installation error or faulty part, what are ur thoughts. ...Ty for ur replies.
In the picture is the module or as they call it igniter. what recourse do I have if a mechanic misdiagnosed my car, I spent money, how should I go about it sir
Well it happens to Doctors all the time, so it happens to auto tech too, but usually an auto tech will have to redo the repair on his own time unlike a Doctor who will charge you no matter what. Your recourse is go back and tell him what you found and see if they will refund your money or do the repair right at no charge. Even I made misdiagnostics at times, and when I did I made it right with my customer by either refunding the money or fixing it right with no charge, but that is just the way I am, I had a very good return business.
That's because of the kind of guy you are t-shoes.
