How can I do a legal motor swap?

Asked by May 12, 2015 at 03:40 PM about the 1990 Toyota Corolla DX

Question type: Car Customization

Say I wanna put a better motor in my
corolla it has the 4afe, and I've heard
so much about the black top 4age,
how can I go about this legally so I
can still drive it and turn heads every
day

Going from 4AFE to 4AGE you will gain little to nothing in power. They are both 16 valve 1.6L that put out 113HP and 123HP (the GE). Unless you go to the 20 valve, with VVT (VVTi) not available on those) you will then gain 30 HP more. But you will be spending a bunch of money that is not going to exactly 'turn heads'. I don't know if it will drop in your Corolla but the 'hottest' one would be the 1.8L 2ZZ ge from a XRS
