will a 2.2 eco motor out of a 2009 hhr fit in a 2005 cobalt

It should fit. I'm presuming that's what you have in your Cobalt now? If you're buying it from an auto wrecker they should be able to tell you if its the right engine. Some of the electronics might be different though so use only the engine and use all the accessories, electronics etc. from your old engine.
