05' Chevy Cobalt
My 05' Chevy Cobalt base model sedan was
purchased used, it has 172,000 miles, and i recently
noticed the coolant to be 190 F. I also noticed the
coolant temp rise extremely quickly, going from
130- 170 F within a few minutes and a drive across
the street ( not even a mile). I do have an oil leak,
however we've added more oil and it still is getting
really hot. Is this normal? ( ps i'm getting the oil leak
fixed but am just trying to evaluate the tempatue )
190 is on the low side of normal. The car warms up fast due to the thermostat being closed (normal).
If the temp gets over 220 then you need to worry. At around 211-215 the cooling fans should kick on and bring the temp back down.
