I need to replace my engine and don't know what options I have

Asked by Jul 09, 2012 at 09:03 AM about the 1992 Toyota Celica GT Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 92 Celica GT Hatchback, 2.2L, and the head is shot.  I figure rather than repairing that, I'd like to put a new engine in, I just don't know what options I have or how to determine what would fit.

Junk yard for used engines or check any Celca forums for advice

really its more what do you want out of your car. you can replace it with a stock motor or another fairly strait forward option would be to put in a turbo engine. putting in an different engine then what was originally in there will be alot of work and you may need to source parts from multiple locations.

to put a turbo engine in all you need is the engine, wire harness and the ecu the engine will bolt up to the tranny and drops right in. or you can take the head of a turbo motor and bolt it right on your current motor to make 2.2 turbo but you still need to have the wire harness and ecu from the turbo motor. and you will have to send the ecu out for flashing to set to a 2.2l
