2006 Solara Conv w/only 12,000 miles-should timing belt be changed due to age?

Asked by Dec 12, 2013 at 06:07 AM about the 2006 Toyota Camry Solara SLE Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our Solara is not used daily - has only 12,000 miles.  Dealership says timing belt should be changed due to age, not mileage.  Is this correct?

Yes, even the belt manufacturers will tell you to change every 6 years. But if your going to keep this car for a long time, I'd get it changed. Peace of mind. If you were going to sell or trade up soon, then no.
