Rear wheel movement

Asked by Stanley Oct 26, 2017 at 12:04 AM about the 2000 Toyota Camry Solara SLE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2000 Toyota Solara has 184k miles and i
recently replaced all shocks/struts front
control arms and all breaks......now when i
drive i still here a clunking noise. Now feels
like the rear wheels have some give and
almost like they are slightly moving left to
right while driving. Doesn't   matter the
speed I am driving be cause its always
happening. Im wondering what this could
be.

Even if no noise is coming from the tires at all clunking sounds more between the rear tires

I would take it to an alignment shop and have them do a close inspection of the suspension. You may have a part that is worn out. Did you have an alignment done after replacing the struts? If not, you should have.

I had a clunk from the rear of my 2010 camry and it ended up being rear sway bar bushings. a problem with these cars. the bushings don't even look bad sometimes, but they go bad. not hard to change. good youtube vids on it.

I haven't had alignment done no because i didnt want to get one done twice given that i still plan on doing rear control arms

Stanley, when you change front struts sometimes the alignment comes out pretty close and sometimes it is way off. A slight change in camber will cause changes in toe in or out and if the toe is out of spec only a little this can cause severe tire wear. You may be needlessly wearing your tires out. I have now way to determine how much you are driving this vehicle. Best of luck with it.
