I dont know where to begin

Asked by Aug 12, 2015 at 09:45 PM about the 2004 Toyota Camry SE V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2004 Camry. Week ago got in &
started up and check engine light
came on as I was pulling away. Next
day started it and it wouldn't go into
reverse. Speedo read abt 20 mph
when sitting still. I turned it off and
on again a couple times. Finally went
in reverse but then when driving it
wouldn't 'kick in" to next gear so
tach read 3200! Next day started up
and check engine light went out but
ABS and BRAKE! lights came on and
stayed on. Auto zone won't read
codes in CA anymore. Help.

Sounds like a transmission problem. Possibly the vehicle speed sensor. You'll want to have the computer scanned to be sure. Even though the check engine light went out the trouble code(s) are still in there. A transmission problem can trigger the check engine light. A bad vehicle speed sensor can trigger the ABS light. We'll need the trouble codes to be sure. HTH. -Jim

Sounds like you may have a few problems happening and getting the codes is going to be a very important, at first it sounded like a speed sensor acting up, then it sounded like a shift sensor, then finally a antilock system failure. I recommend taking it to a shop you trust and have a diagnosis performed on the vehicle.
