pre-buying auto inspection

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

How do I go about getting a PROPER Pre-buying inspection of a car? If I hire a mechanic where do I find one to do an unbiased inspection? Does anyone happen to know if local Pepboys can do it or are they even capable or certified to do such. Has anyone had any experiences with them? Please advise of findings. Is there another known community of mechanics who do this type of work? Please advise and point me in that direction.I have done some research as I am looking for a manual shift car yr2000 or newer medium/midsize car. As far as general maintenance costs a 2004 Toyota Camry SE manual shift seems to be on radar. As always thanks for your help.

Any mechanic will do one for you, it essentially going over the car like you would a normal state inspection and more. I personally wouldn't have Pepboy's do it, but find a competent mechanic in your area that works on Toyota's, ask friends and family. If that isn't much help, a Toyota dealership would be a good place as well. Expect to pay an hours worth of labor for this.
