Clarification needed. There are 2 phases required to get a gasoline engine running. One...Crank. Does the battery seem to Crank the engine over properly...like the battery is good...or....does it sound like you have a dead battery. Two...the engine should FIRE UP...and run at idle. So....Does she Crank...but...not Fire Up....or...she will not CRANK...thus...no fire?

1998 Toyota Camry. Won’t start -cranks over, No fire -all lines cleared (Gas, filters, spark plugs good, battery, starter, alternator all good.) Was thinking maybe my timing belt, yet was also brought to my attention it could be the catalytic converter. Was driving and everything was on, the car just died. No power when you gas it! Towed it home, now checked everything, ran diagnostic and it came out blank. Check engine light on when I bought it they said the diagnostic was ok. Being he’s a mechanic I didn’t think anything. What else could it be. The catalytic is expensive and I don’t want aftermarket Parts if it’s the timing it sounds cheaper. Everything is on California codes. Does it matter I’m from Hawaii? Temp? Climate? Anything would help
