Hood release

It's not easy, at least from my experience with a friend's Corolla. After trying lots of ways, trying not to damage the car, the bumper had to be loosened as much as possible to reach the latch because the brackets, radiator and other components obstruct your way from underneath the car. Once the latch was reached, we realized that the only way it could be released was by pulling the release cable or make a hole/crack upper part of plastic grille. My advise to you is to do what my friend ended up doing, call a locksmith to open the driver's side door.

You could put jumper cables on the starter, from underneath the car. I also wonder if you could pull a light bulb and supply power to the socket, see if it works it's way back to battery and gives it enough power to unlock door.
I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla 2010 CE, I was running into the same problem. Check out my imgur album post I provided a tutorial on what I did to rectify this https://imgur.com/gallery/mZmGAGk
