Camry won't start

Asked by Shelly Oct 04, 2019 at 01:41 PM about the 2000 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Camry power paused while driving. Car shut down
while driving for about 3 seconds.  Lights dimmed
but made it home.  Once turned off, it wouldn't turn
back on.  No clicking, not a sound.  Lights, doors
nothing is powered.

Dead battery or bad connection . Could also be bad alternator. if ever had the vehicle jumped started due to a drained battery and drove the vehicle with out charging the battery you may have damaged the internal voltage regulator in the alternator. Charge the battery fully and check all connections positive and grounds are tight and clean of any corrosion. If the car starts and runs you can disconnect the positive cable for a second or so to see if the car continues to run. If it stalls the alternator may need to be replaced. if it doesn't stall reconnect it quickly as to not damage the alternator.

Your welcome.. Just remember always be sure a battery is fully charged when running a car to protect the alternator. If you leave lights on or the battery is drained don't just jump it and go but rather remove the battery have it checked and charged.

That didn't work. I towed it to a mechanic and now they want me to give them an open check to diagnose the problem at $80/hour. Picking up my car.

remove the battery and have it checked and charged if good. Take to pep boys or the dealer. Shouldn't take more than an hour to diagnose. Never commit to a repair until diagnosed and with an estimate for the repair.
