and you took the dist cap off and sprayed everything in the with wd-40 also >The ignition control unit (or module) that's installed on your Toyota Camry is what controls the spark/firing of the ignition coils. The coils, in turn, send the charge down the spark plug wires and fire off the spark plugs. When the ignition control unit starts to go bad, which isn't an uncommon occurrence, the spark becomes weak, erratic or non-existent. This usually happens when this electronic device suffers an internal short. A classic symptom of an ignition control module that's on the way out is when the vehicle has no trouble starting or running up until the point that it gets hot but then it suddenly quits and won't restart until it's had a chance to cool down.
Clarification. Does this engine crank over well....but will not start and run? If this is the case, uncover the fuse and relay boxes under the hood and see if there is any remaining moisture at these locations. Also, check the Air Filter box and see if the filter is saturated.
