2004 Avalon makes scraping sound going over a bump or dip. Is it strut?
My Avalon makes a scraping sound when going over a dip or bump. I expected to see a piece of metal hanging down when I looked under the car, but nothing looks out of the ordinary. I imagine that sound could be made by fluid in the shock passing through an orifice or something. Does anyone know where to start looking? Car has around 102,000 miles and as far as I know the struts have never been changed. Rides fine.....front end seems to dampen well.
yes, replace the struts, push down on front of car,see if it pusheses down easy if it feels bouncy.
Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned, it seems to dampen well. That is to say that it doesn't feel bouncy either on the road or at a standstill pushing down on the front.
04,102,000 miles, yes time for them to be replaced.
I have the same problem. It come and goes. Quite annoying sometimes, but absolutely quiet on the highway.
