I keep getting P1135 and P1155 Codes for reasons why my check engine light comes on.

Asked by Mar 27, 2017 at 07:08 PM about the 2001 Toyota Avalon XL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently went to get the Safety and Emissions test done and was
immediately FAILED because of a check engine light indicator. The Codes
that came back were P1135 and P1155 for Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor. I was told
by the NAPA Auto parts store to replace the rear sensor first (P1135) and
then clear and reset the check engine light because often that is the reason
for both codes being pulled. Changed the rear sensor, took it back, reset
the system and the light immediately came back on with both codes being
pulled.

The main question is could this be something else? I don't want to replace
both expensive sensors if that is not the real problem. What else could this
be? What can I do to fix the problem? Any help would greatly help.

You replaced the wrong O2 sensor....P1135 TOYOTA - Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction Bank 1 Sensor 1...Possible causes; Faulty Air-Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1, Air-Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted, Air-Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection, Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)...The P1135 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a heated oxygen sensor heater circuit malfunction..........P1155 TOYOTA - Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction Bank 2 Sensor 1...Possible causes; Faulty Air-Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1, Air-Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted, Air-Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection, Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)...The P1155 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a heated oxygen sensor heater circuit malfunction.

Do you have pictures of where these sensors are? Also how do I check to see if the circuit is open or shorted(bad electrical connection. OR if the Engine Control Module is bad?
