Got some issues....
Well, I'll start off by saying I'm an 18 yr old greenhorn, so I'm hunting some
advice. I was on the interstate with my '99 4Runner Limited 4x4 when my
4WD suddenly kicks in, and now it's leaking transmission fluid. Now, I was
moving up above 85 mph, and i have a bad vibration problem. The
vibration shaved off my muffler bolts and caused it to drop and start
dragging. With that in mind, I would like to know why my 4WD kicked in,
and where these vibrations are coming from. Thanks
At that speed any vibration can inadvertently cause the 4WD relays to chatter and engage the transfercase motor, this in turn could cause an overspeed in the transmission burning it up as well as the transfer case. If you have oversized wheels and tires that aren't balanced properly and if it is lifted any that changes pinion angles so driving that fast can cause untold problems. true 4X4's are not designed to run that fast even in 2WD. Please read the owners manual, if you don't have one get one, it will show the limitations of your rig, service intervals etc.
